I walked into the church one morning expecting the heaviness that usually comes with funerals. My eyes scanned the church hall, but before I could even take in the scene, the sound of music met my ears. The praise team led out in soulful worship, and the atmosphere was saturated with songs of praise. Without even realizing it, I too had begun to sing along. The words flowed naturally from my lips, and for a moment, I had forgotten the occasion.

Some people remained silent or just gently swayed to the music, while others praised God with hands lifted and hearts turned heavenward. The sanctuary was filled with a sense of joy that didn’t match the somber occasion. It felt like a concert of praise, and I found myself completely caught up in it as I reflected on God’s goodness in my life.

Then, suddenly, my gaze was drawn toward the front of the church. There it was, the open coffin I had walked right past without noticing. Inside lay the well-dressed and still body of the man whose life was being celebrated that day. That was when it truly dawned on me that I was at a funeral service. While the others around me continued to worship, I too stood still, struck by the silence of the one who could no longer join in.

In that moment, I received a sobering realization. One day, hopefully not anytime soon, I, too, may lie silent and still while others sing and worship around me. They will lift their voices, but mine will be quiet. They will praise, but I will not be able to hear or join them because worship is a privilege bestowed only to the living (Isaiah 38:19 NLT).

Too often, we wait for the right time to lift our hands, the right mood to pray, or the right season to give thanks. But the truth is, there is no better time to worship than now, while we still can. If you are reading this, you have several reasons to praise God. He is the One who gives life, who sustains you, and who deserves your worship every single day. Why wait until tomorrow to thank Him for what He has done today? Tomorrow is not promised, but He has given you today. Feel free to sing, pray, give thanks, and let your heart be full of gratitude now.

Nothing this side of Heaven lasts forever. One day, the songs may go on without you. Prayers will rise from other lips while yours will be silent. Before that day comes, choose to worship Him in spirit and truth while you still can.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!"

Psalm 150:6 ESV
