As told to: Anthony R. Castelbuono

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"

John 14:6

In Tristan’s1 dream, he was traveling along a road lined with temptations and worldly pleasures he enjoyed but which were not of God. As Tristan was drawn to these temptations, his car swerved back and forth on the road. Gripping the steering wheel with all his might, he was having extreme difficulty keeping control of the vehicle. Tristan was terrified, fearing he would hit another car. He desperately wanted to do what was right in God’s eyes but lacked the power to maintain control.

As Tristan grew more terrified, he began to pray with his eyes open while trying to control the car. He pleaded with God to help him resist the temptations that were distracting him from the road and causing his erratic driving. Suddenly, as Tristan prayed, the car came under the control of someone other than himself. He glanced over at the passenger seat and realized that Jesus was sitting there. Tristan then saw that the car wasn’t normal, as he had originally thought. The car had controls on the passenger side, just like a student driver's car, which overrode his. Jesus was driving the car! He looked at me with an amazing and comforting smile. Immediately, Tristan sensed peace inside the car. We both gazed at each other. Jesus smiled at Tristan, and Tristan just looked at Jesus in amazement.

After a while, Tristan grew comfortable with Jesus driving, so he looked out the window again. The same old distractions were still there, and Tristan found himself looking at Jesus less and less. Then he realized the car was once again out of control. Frantically, he tried to take control of the car himself, gripping the steering wheel as his knuckles turned white.

As Tristan tried to keep the car away from the distractions of his life, he glanced over at the passenger seat to see why Jesus wasn’t driving anymore. To his horror, Satan was now sitting next to him, wearing a hideous grin, deliberately steering the car toward the things Tristan had been so desperately trying to avoid.

That’s when Tristan woke up. He knew then that this beautiful yet terrifying dream was a personal message for him.

Call to Action

Jesus is the only way—let Him drive your your car. When we try to drive our own lives, we are helpless against our adversary, the devil. Cling to Jesus and rely on Him at all times, and He will guide your life straight and true.

Will you let Jesus drive your car?

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
