Are you intimate with God? How often do you share with Him your feelings and emotions?

After I lost my foster son two weeks before he was going to officially become my son, I began learning how important it is to share my thoughts, feelings and emotions with God. I learned the intimacy that God wants with each of us through one of my favorite Bible promises:

Bible Promise: Proverbs 3 Verses 5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

Did you know that:

  • The word “heart” means our thoughts, feelings and emotions — the things going on inside of our minds.
  • The word “acknowledge” means to be intimate with God and it is the same word used in Genesis for Adam and Eve knowing each other, with the result being a child.

After I lost my foster son, I was comforted by reading through many of the Psalms in the Bible. David was brutally honest with God, asking God to do some violent things to his enemies. He was never struck by lighting by sharing these “raw thoughts” with God.

We are instructed to, “Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved (Psalms 55:22). The word “cast” means to violently throw. This is how serious and important it means to cast our burdens on the Lord. He wants to hear from us. He desperately desires for us to share our burdens, thoughts and feelings with Him. What a beautiful and tender picture this is of our Heavenly Father!

After I started sharing my raw emotions and feelings with God, I experienced this deep sense of peace, and His presence became very real to me. Remember, when we share things with God, He listens and does things for us. For me, after I shared my feelings with God, the Holy Spirit brought Bible verses to my mind that directly helped me with the things I was dealing with.
