One of my favorite Bible promises is:
What the Bible Promise Means to Me
People can mock me as a Christian, urging me to forsake this apparently unseen God and seek solace and answers from the gods of this world—such as alcohol or other addictive substances to drown my sorrows. There was a time when I did try these physical gods due to fear and pressure. But they all could not help because following them was a downward spiral that has no end; all of these are man-made and no greater than I. After indulging in them I could not be proud of what I had done because they demeaned me, emptied my pocket, and created enemies rather than friends. I had nothing to be proud of.
I am proud to be a Christian that believes in the promises of the Bible and when I read the above Bible promise (Psalm 3:2-3) I am reminded that whatever I do for the Lord wholeheartedly will give me inner joy and satisfaction. Even though I may be reviled by man; God is the One who sees the true value of who I am and what I am capable of. I can physically hold my head up high because when I look up to Him; He is pleased with what I have done. I can step boldly into the world because He has “got my back.” The only true help I can receive is from God who doesn’t expect anything other than love in return. What a mighty, wonderful, loving God He is.

What the Bible Promise Means to Me
Recently in a Zoom Bible Study meeting and discussion, we were asked “What has Jesus given you?” The first and foremost answer is “Salvation”, but we were asked to go beyond and be specific in personal ways. “What gift has Jesus given you?”
My answer is Jesus giving Himself, He is the “Lover of My soul.” In Isaiah 43:1 you find His Word says, “’I have called you by your name; you are mine.’” And following in verse 4, He says that He loves us. So, He has claimed me as His own. I belong. I am part of the family of God. I am loved deeply and cherished by the Saviour of the world.
I have been a widow for 23 years and very much miss my companion. The marriage bond is sacred and special. It is a committed belonging. With Jesus, the union is divine, beyond the physical, touching the spiritual reality of our existence. I am loved. I belong. I am forever joined in spirit to the King of the universe.
Along with these verses in Isaiah, I also claim this reality of belonging, from the New Testament. John 1:11-12 says, “He came to His own, and His own people did not accept Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
What the Bible Promise Means to Others
I am His and He is mine. Hallelujah! And this is true for all who trust Him.
