“Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.”

Acts 12:5

The call came at 9:27 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021. "Please pray for me! I have been admitted to the hospital, and the surgery is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. Please pray for a successful surgery."

"May God be with you!" was all I was able to say before sending word out to other prayer intercessors on behalf of Brother Faustin. I had no idea what kind of surgery it was going to be, but pray I did. Several other prayer warriors joined me in sending prayers to the throne room of grace on his behalf. Just as the early Christians did so often for one another, we also should be lifting each other in prayer to the Lord. As the Bible says in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Two weeks went by, and I didn't hear any word from brother Faustin. I decided that on Sabbath, I would stop by his house to see how he was feeling. To my surprise, I saw an aged-looking fellow sitting down with a cane and his wife and son by his side. It was Brother Faustin. He explained the urgent plea for prayer two weeks prior.

Brother Faustin had suffered for some time from headaches. That particular morning the headache had become so severe that he could barely hold his head up. His daughter called her mom to explain that something was wrong. They took him to his primary care physician, who told him to go to the emergency room immediately. Brother Faustin wasn't sure why this was so urgent. He’d had many headaches before and thought surely some pain medications and a trip back home were all that was needed.

Thankfully, he did heed the doctor’s advice and soon arrived at the local hospital’s emergency room. After some tests, he was told he needed emergency surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. This tumor had been the cause of all his headaches. The surgery was very serious and had an extremely high likelihood of leaving him crippled or dead. Brother Faustin trusted in the God he served. Once admitted to the hospital, he called on others to pray on his behalf for a successful surgery. This hospital was not the best, but he believed in the power of prayer and God’s healing ability. The Lord worked through the doctor to have the best of results. Not only was the surgery successful, but brother Faustin was walking just two weeks after surgery! He praises God for His healing power and recognizes that God worked a miracle in his life.

Call to Action

Just as God worked a miracle for Peter by releasing him from the prison in a most miraculous way (see Acts 12), He is ready and willing to do miracles in our lives. Often, we only need to ask. There is much power in prayer, especially group intercessory prayer. Let’s pray without ceasing for one another, asking the Lord to work miracles
