What is a promise? It is a declaration that one will do exactly what they say. When God makes a promise, you can count on Him to fulfill it. You can cast all your cares upon Him and run with outstretched arms, expecting it to be realized. Be assured that not one of His promises has ever failed. When God makes a promise to His people, it will come to pass. As He says in Isaiah 65:24, "Before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear."

Before I call, He will answer me. That is a powerful promise.

"The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways" (Deuteronomy 28:9). God promised to the nation of Israel that if they kept His commandments He would bless them abundantly. If they would obey His word, He would set them high above all the nations on earth. These promises are for you too. You can claim them right now. You do not have to wait until tomorrow. God knows your heart, He knows your desire, He even knew you were going to call upon Him before you knew. The Lord loves us more than we can ever imagine, and His promises show it. He has left us promises to hold on to, and He expects us to live in them. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13 KJV). “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know" (Jeremiah 33:3). Wow!

Knowing that I am in God's thoughts has built my relationship with Him. I worry less, and I go to Him with more confidence, not tip toeing like I once did. I go to Him with assurance and a thankful spirit. Your Father in heaven has your back. He knows we are feeble and made out of dust. "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope" (Jeremiah 29:11). Knowing that these promises were given to me helps me on my journey. They make life a lot easier, they give me strength and hope, and more than that, they build my faith. They keep me focused and make me aware of my Christian walk. I walk and agree with Him as He admonished me to do. “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" (Amos 3:3) I take His promises right back to Him, word for word.

I thank God for these promises. He promised that He will go before us and will make our crooked paths straight, He would break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron on our behalf. I live on these promises. I have learned that the gift is in the thank you. I can go to bed, I worry less, and I sleep better. I am elated to know that He is near to all who call upon Him in truth. His word is His will.

"For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself."

Acts 2:39 ESV

As a parent, it is so comforting to know that I can call to Jesus on my children's behalf and have the assurance that He hears me.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You."

Isaiah 26:3

Call to Action

Trust God in all your life’s affairs, and you will be at peace. Keep your mind on what He says and not what you see.
