“God, may you please send food for us!” That was my prayer as we drove back from work on one very cold evening.
We had just returned home from Uganda, where we had enjoyed very warm weather for almost two months. The previous day, we arrived in Alberta, Canada, facing a temperature of minus 45 C with the wind chill.
We went to work the following morning. The office was so busy that day that I did not have time to think about food. Nonetheless, as the evening drew near, jetlag set in and even though I was hungry and longing for a nice hot meal, I was too exhausted and miserable to cook. And that is when I cried out to the Lord asking Him to send food.
With little faith, I wondered how that could possibly happen, given the miserable weather. Who would venture out on a night like this?
As those thoughts were running through my mind, something happened. Just a few meters away from reaching my home, I heard my phone ring. I was reluctant to pick up because I was in no mood to chat with anyone. The caller persisted, leaving me no choice but to pick up.
“Hello,” I quietly answered, hoping to make the conversation as short as possible. From the caller, I heard the very lively voice of my spiritual daughter Ama, sweetly saying, “Aunt, are you home yet? I have cooked some jollof rice (a West African dish) for you. I am bringing it now.”
I held the phone, and tears of joy started streaming down my face. My God who sees had heard and answered my desperate cry for a warm meal. He spoke to Ama, who immediately obeyed and acted.
In a few minutes, Ama was at the door with a big dish of jollof rice. She offered to serve me and later started setting the kitchen in order. I marveled at the love of God as my husband and I ate, contemplating this miracle. I was thinking, “God, you actually sent food for us!” We felt overwhelming gratitude. Immediately, the verse in Isaiah 65:24 came to my mind, “Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
Call to Action
Dear friend, whatever situation you may be in, however large or small, God cares. He tells you in Mathew 6:25-34: “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on…” He points us to the “birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them.”
Our Heavenly Father is asking you today, saying, “My child, “Are you not of more value than they?” Why not Trust Him?
