As we go through life, we encounter problems that may seem small or insignificant. We may find ourselves reluctantly going to God because we believe that our seemingly insignificant trials will not matter to him. We may ask ourselves, “Does the Lord care about my small problems? Would the Lord be willing to provide something as trivial as a blender?” The answer is “YES!” He does care. While this story may seem trivial to some, it meant the world to me. It was just the encouragement I needed from my God who does care even about a blender.

At the end of my junior year of college, I was rather stressed and quite frankly depressed. I prayed fervently, but still, something seemed to be missing. After some introspection, I determined that my academics were the source of my worries. As I reached the end of my rope, I felt God leading me to read Daniel 1. It was simply a feeling in my heart that pushed me to open my bible to Daniel 1. As I read, it seemed that God wanted me to pray and fast, similarly to how Daniel prayed and fasted. Daniel’s fast was not characterized by complete abstinence from meals, but by keeping from harmful and unhealthy food. It was clear that the Lord was calling me to cleanse my body and to eat only fruits and vegetables. I wondered how I would be able to access these foods, seeing as I was a college student with no income. I knew I needed to trust that God would provide me with an ample variety of healthy foods that I would need to carry out this fast. I quickly realized that because of my class schedule I would not be able to prepare full meals, so I knew that drinking fruit or vegetable smoothies would be the best alternative. However, I desperately needed a blender in order to make the fruit and vegetable smoothies. Knowing that I had no way of affording a blender, I understood that I had to bring this request to God. Although my request seemed petty, in faith I quietly asked the Creator to endow me with a blender.

The next week, I found myself at my Nana’s house. It was the day before I was to begin the fast. We were cooking Italian food for a small prayer group from the university campus. As the sauce marinated, Nana pulled out an old-timey blender that I certainly had never seen before. I wondered where it came from and pondered why she had brought it out, giving no thought to the request I had previously brought to God. Before our night of cooking was through, Nana volunteered that the blender was for me! Unasked and completely unexpected. I was ecstatic beyond belief, I marveled at how the Lord had provided for my seemingly small request.

Call to Remember & Take Action

God has a way to provide for our every need (Philippians 4:19). He whispers instructions during our teensy trivial trials. He revels in guiding us through our large life lessons. My Divine Architect even used Nana to sponsor my fast. After 10 days of eating fruits and vegetables, my mood was uplifted. I found my academics climbing. Our prayer group had some amazing blessings! Through this experience, I realized that the Lord’s timing is perfect, and his methods are magnanimous. The challenge is to trust Him! No matter how small or insignificant your problems or needs might seem, I exhort you to look to the only One who can truly satisfy every need and want according to His holy will.

Remember: Only God can bestow knowledge, wisdom, and a way out of anything and everything.

“How great are his signs,

how mighty are his wonders!

His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom;

his dominion is from generation to generation.”

Daniel 4:3
