Hymn writer Russell Kelso Carter’s life-long claim to Christianity was deeply challenged by a health crisis. Kelso had written the famous hymn, “Standing on the Promises,” before it seemed he would certainly die of a heart condition. Kelso claimed God’s promises and gave himself completely to God’s service. Miraculously, Kelso lived for another 49 years.¹
Consider these words from the second verse of this beloved hymn:
“Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God."²

This month’s Get Ready Magazine theme is: Standing on the Promises. Like Kelso, we can also give ourselves completely to God, and make His promises the ground we stand on.
Jesus is coming back again soon! Are you ready?
