It was a week before our wedding. We had 250 people coming, but we had no food!

Let’s rewind 6 months. Philip and I had become engaged on a beautiful fall afternoon. After he popped the question, we drank carrot-orange juice to seal the deal. Then wedding planning began.

For our wedding reception, we planned to recreate our favorite dish from a nearby plant-based restaurant. The caterer was a friend of my fiancé’s. However, three weeks before the wedding, everything fell apart. I shared the news with my mom, and stress immediately set in.

I earnestly began to pray and call local restaurants to see if they could make the food for us. They all said “No!” No matter how I tried, no one would agree to our increasingly desperate plea.

A friend kindly offered to help my mom cook, but combining that with all the wedding preparations was overwhelming. She declined and started losing sleep. I was a college professor and couldn’t juggle cooking, teaching, grading midterms, and preparing to move all at once. What were we going to do?

As I cried out to God to solve our food dilemma, I came across a verse in the Bible that spoke to me. “The eyes of all look expectantly to You. And You give them their food in due season,” Psalm 145:15. I began to claim this promise! I thanked God, in faith, for His promise to provide for our needs.

A week before the wedding, a family member told us about a new plant-based restaurant, Cashew, that had just opened in our town. I drove over with a friend to sample their food. It was absolutely delicious!

I spoke with the manager and explained our wedding food dilemma. She said they would inform me in a few days whether they could prepare the food on such short notice. A week before the wedding, they called with the good news that they could cater the food!

God waited until the last minute, but He indeed fulfilled His Word! I believe God did this to teach me a lesson in trust and to give Him all the glory!

On our wedding day, as I watched our guests happily eating, I thanked God again and again for providing our food in “due season.”

Call to Action

I encourage you to remember the following promise from God’s Word: “But as for me, I would seek God, and to God I would commit my cause—Who does great things, and unsearchable, marvelous things without number” (Job 5:8-9).

Turn to God, whatever the situation. Place your petition before Him, surrender any worries or concerns. Trust your cares with Him because He cares (1 Peter 5:7) for you and He’s listening.

“Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.”

Jeremiah 29:12
