You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

In April 2024, a supply of Godpods (solar-powered audio Bibles loaded with the Maasai language) was delivered to Christian ministry workers in Kenya. Elizabeth, the local women’s ministries leader in the Transmara region of Kenya’s Maasai Mara, received a supply of them to disperse among the local illiterate ladies.

The widow Anna considered herself blessed to receive a Godpod at the Olopikidong’oe church. Her thoughts were consumed with the idea: “How can I share these precious words with people?”

God had a plan and sent the Holy Spirit to warm hearts to the messages of His Holy Scripture. First, the widow’s son listened to the Godpod, and his life transformed mightily as his thoughts focused heavenward. Her daughter-in-law also clung with joy to the new truth she learned.

Taking her appointment from God seriously, Anna also knew that her neighbors needed to hear the messages from heaven that the little Godpod contained. She devised a plan to hang her Godpod in a tree early in the morning after milking the cows. She turned up the volume so that she could hear the hope-filled words while she was in her kitchen. As the nearby neighbors passed her property, they, too, heard the promises from God Himself.

Anna’s closest neighbor had not been attending any church and was stunned by the urgency presented by the Scriptures read from these small devices. One day, Anna needed to recharge her Godpod, and this neighbor became disturbed when the messages that thrilled her soul suddenly disappeared. This neighbor, as well as others, approached Anna: “What happened to the ‘radio’? Where can we buy one?”

When the Godpod was returned to its usual place, the neighbors walked closer to hear more clearly the Word of God being read. They gathered and sat in the grass near the tree where the device swung in the breeze.

One neighbor’s son had learned to read in school, so he began to read the Bible to his mom after he returned home. While he attended classes, she was attentive to the Godpod suspended from the tree limb.

Godpods are a mere tool that God uses in many parts of the world, including in this small corner of Kenya. The mom, who did not attend any church, her husband, her mother, and her husband’s sister all have been baptized as a result of the Godpod dangling in a tree. The son, who read to his mother, also hopes to be baptized one day.

Since not every mother or father has a son or daughter who can read the cherished Scriptures for them, these Godpods warm the hearts of illiterate people. Once they hear how much their Savior loves them, their hearts yearn to know Him on a deeper level. These solar-powered instruments are an answer to many prayers as the words of the Bible resonate to the very core of people’s souls.

Call to Action

The Bible tells us: “When [Jesus] saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36 ESV).

He followed His observation with these words to His disciples: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37–38 ESV).

Will you be a laborer like Anna to become a part of a labor force that will reap a harvest of souls? Ask God, and He will show you what He needs from you specifically. He has a plan and will lead you. Simply ask Him.
