“Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Matthew 18:18

Katherine and her husband Harry were traveling home from the United States to Jamaica. When they finally arrived home and walked in the door, they were astonished to find men in their house! They had interrupted three thieves in the process of burglarizing their home. The thieves believed the couple had great possessions because they could travel frequently to the US. However, the thieves were unaware that Katherine and Harry were returning that day. They intended a quick anonymous heist but were in for a surprise.

When Katherine and Harry stepped into the entrance of their home, the burglars quickly decided to tie them up. They asked Katherine where her jewelry was located. Well, Katherine doesn't wear jewelry due to her beliefs. So, the burglars determined to look around themselves to see what they could get. They took a few items they thought were of worth and loaded them up in their car. Then, they came back inside to kill Katherine and Harry.

Praying the Promise

Katherine and Harry realized what was happening and they recited Matthew 18:18. Then they started to pray out loud. With their hands tied, they kneeled and prayed that God would help them.

They heard the car drive off.

They opened their eyes.

Two of the thieves were gone.

One remained. Crying!

The remaining thief was standing in their home crying! Their prayers had deeply touched him. He knew this wasn't the life he was supposed to live. He had once been a Christian but found himself down the wrong path as he got older. When he heard Harry and Katherine praying, he told the other two thieves that he was not going to harm these people or take their possessions. The other two left, and this third thief decided to give his life back to Jesus.

Call to Action

Make it a habit to talk to God daily. Seek Him first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Pray to Him in the good times as well as the bad. Choose a relationship with Jesus. Then, when life takes an unexpected turn, you will instinctively know what to do. Pray!

Psalm 34:17 says, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.”
