Power of Praise

I’ve felt a strong urge to teach farming for a long time. After many months of prayer, I’d recruited ten students and an assistant to begin a sustainable agriculture class at our local Adventist University. God is good! We began planting crops in the warm, late summer and were thankful when the baby kale and lettuce sprouted. God is good! However, as summer faded into crisp autumn, I knew we’d need a greenhouse if we were to continue growing through the semester’s-end in December. So, I began praying for God to provide, but the weeks were slipping by, and nothing happened. What was I going to do?

One afternoon, our prayers were answered when the administration informed me that they’d approved the purchase of a greenhouse. God is good! When the large boxes arrived in early October, our class’s excitement turned to frustration when we realized its assembly was beyond us. We didn’t have the tools, and we didn’t have the experience. We needed expert help installing our greenhouse, so we prayed that God would provide. But as weeks passed, no help came.

On one gorgeous day in late October, the sun was streaming through the window; however, I was anything but joyful. That day, I decided to fast and pray that God would perform a miracle and put up the greenhouse. I was begging God to do something when He gave me a subtle impression, ‘Why don’t you stop begging and praise me for what I’m about to do?’ Immediately, I took God’s advice and began praising Him, anticipating His answer.

As the praises left my mouth, the phone rang. The Vice President answered, “I have excellent news,” he said. “The maintenance department will assemble the greenhouse tomorrow.”

I was overjoyed, as thankfulness added to gratitude. God is good!

Call to Action

That day, God taught me an incredibly valuable lesson. In addition to bringing my requests to God in prayer, I should praise Him in faith. Every day, He’s working miraculously to sustain my life. Let’s praise God more starting now!
